چکیده

High resolution (R = 60 000), high S/N spectra have been obtained for 13 halo stars and 16 disk stars with 5400 <∼ Teff <∼ 6500 K, 4.0 <∼ logg <∼ 4.6 and overlapping metallicities in the range −1.3 <∼ [Fe/H] <∼ −0.5. Equivalent widths of weak Fe i and Fe ii lines are used to determine differential values of Teff and logg. Relative abundances of O, Na, Mg, Si, Ca, Ti, Cr, Fe, Ni, Y andBa are determined to a precision ranging from 0.02 to 0.07 dex. Kinematical data have been collected and used to calculate the stellar orbital parameters,Rmax, the maximum distance from the Galactic center, and zmax, the maximum distance from the Galactic plane. Agroupof 8halo stars have significantly lower [α/Fe] values than disk stars of the samemetallicity (α ≡O,Mg, Si, Ca or Ti). These stars are also underabundant in Na and Ni and maybe in Cr. [Na/Fe] ranges from−0.4 to+0.1, and [Ni/Fe] is surprisingly well correlated with [Na/Fe]. The smallest values of [α/Fe] and [Na/Fe] are found for the stars with the largest values of Rmax and zmax. This may indicate that the anomalous halo stars have been accreted from dwarf galaxies with a chemical evolution history different from that of the inner halo and the disk. In any case the data show that abundance ratios in stars are not universal functions of [Fe/H] and that the chemical evolution of theGalaxy at [Fe/H] ' −1.0 ismore complicated than assumed in many models. One halo star, HD 106038, is found to be strongly overabundant in Si, Ni, Y and Ba relative to Fe.

The formation of disk galaxies in a cosmological context Populations, metallicities and metallicity gradients

We present first results concerning the metallicities and stellar populations of galaxies formed in a cosmologically motivated simulation. The calculations include dark matter, gas dynamics, radiation processes, star formation, supernovae feedback, and metal enrichment. A rotating, overdense sphere with a mass of 8 1011 M serves as initial model. Converging and Jeans unstable regions are allowe...

Lithium in very metal poor thick disk stars

A search for lithium is performed on seven metal poor dwarfs with metallicities ranging from [Fe/H]=-1.5 down to [Fe/H]=-3.0 but showing disk–like kinematics. These stars belong to the metal poor tail of the Galactic thick disk and they may be also the result of an accretion event (Beers and Sommer-Larsen 1995). The Li 6707.8 Å line is present in all the seven dwarfs. The weighted average of th...

Chemical composition of extremely metal-poor stars in the Sextans dwarf spheroidal galaxy

Context. Individual stars in dwarf spheroidal galaxies around the Milky Way Galaxy have been studied both photometrically and spectroscopically. Extremely metal-poor stars among them are very valuable because they should record the early enrichment in the Local Group. However, our understanding of these stars is very limited because detailed chemical abundance measurements are needed from high ...

Element Ratios and the Formation of the Stellar Halo

It is well-established that the vast majority of metal-poor Galactic halo stars shows evidence for enrichment by solely massive stars. Recent observations have identified more varied behavior in the pattern of elemental abundances measured for metal-rich, [Fe/H]∼ −1 dex, halo stars, with both high and low values of the ratio of [α/Fe]. The low values are most naturally due to the incorporation ...

Kinematics of Nearby Subdwarf Stars

We present an analysis of the space motions of 742 subdwarf stars based on the sample of Carney et al.(1994). Hipparcos parallaxes, TYC2+HIP proper motions and Tycho2 proper motions were combined with radial velocities and metallicities from CLLA. The kinematical behavior is discussed in particular in relation to their metallicities. The majority of these sample stars have metal abundances of [...
